Scholarship Selection Committee, Administration and Outreach

Time is racing by and we need to get set up to award scholarships next year. A critical to do item is to set up a selection committee and people to administer the process to solicit applicants and give out the Barbara Neu Memorial Scholarship. Our family is not allowed to do this alone.

The Sacramento Region and Yolo Community Foundations have recommended that we consider Julie Clayton, counselor at Davis High School to administer the scholarship:

“Julie oversees all of the scholarships for Davis High as well as Da Vinci Charter Academy in Davis, which are the two feeder high schools for kids who have attended Fairfield Elementary, and we have worked with her for a long time on several of our other scholarships. She administers similar scholarships to the Barbara Neu Scholarship, including one for students who attended a certain pre-school in Davis, and she does an excellent job of promoting and awarding them. ”

Outreach and promotion activities are also important. According to the Foundations, the Barbara Neu Memorial Scholarship Fund could piggyback on Julie's existing outreach efforts through the Davis Enterprise, social media, and whatever other outreach she does with the other scholarships.

While we think having someone at the high schools in Davis involved would be great, we would like to have wider representation than this, include people who are part of the Fairfield community and also some who knew my mother well.

Therefore, we are reaching out to see:

If anyone has experience with Julie Clayton for input on the Foundations' recommendation to include her in the process.
If there are other recommendations that you have for who should be a part of the scholarship selection committee and outreach.
If you want to help out, either by participating on the selection committee or working to get the word out about the scholarship.
